Emerge is a tactile rug made up of Birch Plywood. I made it during a material handling course (materials and processes 2) where we worked with Birch plywood material. For the first week, we explored different properties of the material, and from the second week onward, we started working on a product of our choice. assimilating the learnings from the first week. I chose to make a tactile rug making use of the texture birch plywood gives when we cut across the layers.
Standing or walking over this rug would help to stimulate nerve endings in your feet and improve your blood circulation. This massaging product doesn't need to hide in your cupboards, it will be a treat to the user's eyes as well.

The process started with sketching out ideas and narrowing them down. Once the idea was chosen, I made a digital sketch for router cutting. I sanded and refined the cut pieces to bring out the pattern of the birch plywood layers. To finish I applied linseed oil and stuck the pieces to an anti-slip rug base.
